Evening light and twilight has always fascinated me. Where I live on the South coast, we get the most fantastic gloaming in the summer evenings, with a beautiful light that lasts for hours: something that has always fascinated me.
The light over the dry dock at Falmouth on that hot summer’s evening was magical and the sparks flying from welding torches looked like they were plucked out of the firey embers of the setting sun.
The two paintings depicting the view across the Thames from Wapping with a view of Tower Bridge, the Shard and Butler’s Wharf, were inspired by a stroll on a very sultry July evening just before the hot spell broke.
“Beach Huts at Sunset” was taken from much closer to home after a winter storm had passed and the last golden beams of sun lit up the shoreline for a brief moment.
